Healthy Food Alternatives
17:00Whether you're trying to cut out unhealthy foods completely, or just trying to cut down, there are so many alternatives for you to consider. Some even taste very similar to the things you already love, which is obviously an added bonus!
Of course there are so many out there, but here are a few which I personally have tried to incorporate into my diet from time to time, whether it be permanently or just to make a meal a little bit healthier than it perhaps would have been before. However, if you have any others which you recommend, please feel free to leave you suggestions in the comments.Fizzy Pop for Water
Although I don't actually like plain water, I started to swap fizzy pop for flavoured water as it contains much less sugar and sweeteners. Plain water is even better though.
Milk Chocolate for Dark Chocolate
If you find it hard to give up chocolate completely, dark chocolate is a much better alternative. It's around 90% cocoa and much lower in sugar. It's an acquired taste, but because it has such a strong flavour, you tend to eat less of it too.
White Rice for Brown Rice or Quinoa
If you eat a lot of rice, this is a perfect alternative for you! It tastes pretty much identical to white rice just with a lot more fibre and slow-release energy. Or try quinoa if you prefer a bit more flavour.
White Potato for Sweet Potato
Contains more fibre than regular potatoes and is also high in Vitamin A as well as being a slow-release carb so they give you energy over a longer period of time. Even better yet, as the name suggests, they taste exactly like white potatoes just sweeter!
White Bread for Wholemeal Bread
It's very widely known that wholemeal bread is better for you than white bread, for many reasons. There has been a lot of concerns into the ingredients put into making white bread, so swapping to wholemeal is a much better alternative. It also contains much more fibre and is just generally more nutritious.
Cheddar for Halloumi
If you're like me and love cheese, this is a great one for you! There are lots of cheeses which are much lower in fat, this is just one example to try, and there is so much you can do with it - grilled halloumi, in a sandwich, the list goes on.
